Fitness trends to look out for in 2018

It’s no secret that one of our most favourite ways of motivating ourselves to stay healthy is by trying out the latest crazes in the fitness world. During 2017, we’ve seen high intensity training become more than just a passing fad, as well as mediation and yoga for mental wellbeing marking its territory in the fitness world. We’ve also seen wearable technology become a fashion trend, in addition to a gadget that helps us keep fit. The ‘Fitbit’ for example, tracks every part of your day – including activity, exercise, food, weight and sleep – to help you stay motivated. So, what can we expect next year?

Petsercising

One of the main excuses for people not going to the gym is ‘the dog can’t be left home alone’ – this issue won’t be viable in 2018 as the exercising with pets idea is set to take off. Whether you’re partaking in a cardio session with your fury friend, taking your pup for a jog or getting fit and social in cat yoga classes, leaving pets at home when exercising is soon to be something of the past. What’s more perfect than combining your two loves – fitness and your pet?

Does having to stay late at work and not making your gym class sound familiar? Don’t fret – in 2018, live-streaming of classes is expected to become a preferred choice among fitness fanatics. Especially during the week, the majority of us can find it hard to fit exercise into our daily routines, alongside work and other commitments. This is where it’s set to change for the better – although live-streaming fitness classes isn’t a necessarily new method, many people believe that 2018 will be the year that live-streaming group classes will finally gain momentum.

Forget HIT, HIIT is next on the agenda…

High intensity training (HIT) has been around for quite some time now, it promotes the idea of losing a substantial amount of weight and toning body muscles through high intensity fitness bursts – people have definitely seen results across the globe… This short and sweet way of working out has been profusely popular among exercise lovers, purely for the reason that instead of running 6 miles, a 10 minute train can get you the same results. It’s proven that interval training burns more calories in a shorter space of time than steady-state cardio. Why spend more time in the gym than you need to?

Napercise

The majority of us know that quality sleep is imperative for our overall health and wellbeing, but what’s one to do when time and commitments get in the way of properly resting up? David Lloyd health clubs have come up with a revitalising and innovative idea for a 2018 exercise class – ‘napercise’, which is assured to be the new workout of your dreams. During this class, participants will simply lay on single beds for 45 minutes inside an exercise studio, whilst instructors play relaxing music and drop the rooms’ temperature. It’s said that the fitness train is targeting ‘exhausted parents’ for the class, with the aim to “reinvigorate the mind and improve moods”, whilst even burning the odd calorie.

Better Apps and artificial intelligence

In 2017, we saw the rise of people turning to fitness apps, which all (in their own way) allow users to track their progress – some even offer coaching advice and have been said to be a great hub for motivation. Many of these fitness apps give real hard statistics about workouts, whilst also offering accelerometers and GPS. Whether you’re looking for a free or paid for app to assist you in your fitness journey, expect more platforms to come to light in the New Year – all promising high-quality content, personalization factors and engaging communities – for endless encouragement.
